Personality

Flash Thompson is what tv tropes would call The Big Guy. He’s not very smart, he’s barely able to figure out basic logic puzzles, but damn can he pack one hell of a punch. Raised in a household of violence and abuse, hitting things very hard was the only thing he knew for a long time. In high school, this was used to take his aggression out on the weak and helpless. Now, he tries to do the right thing in hopes it'll make up for the past.

Whatever false self esteem he pretended to have in high school has evaporated. In trying to repair things with Peter and their group of friends, Flash will insist on taking the blame. He's always surprised when someone sees him beyond his capabilities and will be the first to shut down any insinuation that he might be a good person. As far as Flash is concerned, he has to spend his lifetime making up for teenage bullying. The friends that have forgiven him are held dear to Flash. He never feels like he deserves their friendship, but he works hard to keep them in his life. Even though Agent Venom is usually off doing missions or saving the day, Flash tries to live something close to a normal life. Hanging out, playing video games, eating pizza.

That said, he's a team player. Since his football days, he's always clicked with having a game plan and trying to build up the people around him. He's happy taking orders and rarely disagrees with whatever brain happens to be in charge. This is sometimes a good trait, sometimes not so much. Flash is trusting. He's subconsciously on the search for a father figure, so if his leader has less-than-great motivations, Flash might be the last to catch on. If there's a disagreement or a fight, he tries to talk it out before resorting to violence. This is undoubtedly due to his history of physically bullying people in his teenage years. For Flash, it runs deeper than that. As a man, when he puts his hands on someone smaller than him, he only sees the shadow of his abusive father.

While Flash has no interest in reconnecting with his father, he stays in touch with his sister, Jesse. She's the only person who has reliably seen both sides of Flash and never once blamed him for his bad attitude growing up. The two are close and her safety takes a priority whenever there's a crisis. As for their mom? It's complicated. Rosie Thompson always takes the side of her husband and joins in blaming Flash for outbursts. Their relationship is tense and distant, even if Flash wishes she would understand his point of view.

Flash has dated, but he's bad at it. In high school, dating was more of a status thing. As a young man, it's way more complicated than that. He's always had a hard time processing feelings and doing that while in a relationship never seems to work out well. He also is self-conscious about being in a wheelchair and would much rather women see him in the Agent Venom suit. The funny thing is, most ladies are not a fan of a gun wielding, dark and broody goop monster.

Finally, and most importantly, Flash is an expert deflector. He likes being honest when it matters, but he also likes using his sense of humor to glide past difficult conversations. For example, when Peter Parker first saw Flash in a wheelchair, Flash made a joke about how his legs didn't make it past customs. It's also a way to keep his anger in check. Growing up in an abusive household meant that Flash has anger in his blood, in the fabric of his DNA, and unleashing it can be terrible for everyone. Especially if he's in the Venom suit. So, humor is a way for him to simmer whatever frustrations or awkwardness he might encounter.

Powers (if any): Flash is an experienced fighter, military trained in combat, and a great shot. As Agent Venom, he has advanced healing, agility, strength, endurance, and reflexes. He can create webbing, do limited morphing, and is immune to spidey senses.
